Brand Identity: Creating Content That Connects With Your Audience

As a marketing student, I have learned that creating a brand is layered. With posting on social media, it’s one thing to post generic content, but turning it into consistent meaningful content that aligns with your brand’s identity is a completely different challenge. While learning the ins and outs of marketing as a student, I ended up starting my own professional brand. Through this journey, I have gone through many trials and errors when finding what works best for my brand, my audience, and my values. Here are some tips that I have picked up along the way.

There are many easy-to-use editing tools out there so use them to your advantage! Canva is a personal favorite of mine. It is user-friendly and offers a wide variety of graphics, effects, and more to help you get started. If you’re feeling stuck on what to create, try scrolling through the templates section to spark some ideas. With Canva, you can even add a brand kit that includes your brand colors, fonts, and logo.

One major thing that I have learned is how much consumers want to connect with brands. They want to know what makes yours unique. Social media posts don’t just have to be product images or announcements. Try adding photos or videos of what your brand embodies. Does it have a down-to-earth feel? Post a simple walk through a pretty field or a mountain shot to invite viewers into the brand. You can also visit other brands’ social media accounts for inspiration to see how they make their identity stand out and go from there.

When it comes to helping customers understand your brand, consistency is key. From post captions to an aesthetically pleasing feed, the little details all add up to form one cohesive social media account. A brand that has a consistent account comes across as intentional, professional, and trustworthy.

What values was your brand built on? For my brand, the values include faith, family, and authenticity. Use those important pillars to make your content more meaningful. For example, if encouragement is one of the values, let it flow in and out of your content. Encouraging feed posts, story posts with inspirational quotes, and captions that give someone a feeling of calm and happiness are all great ways to share that value. Customers like to align with brands that share similar values.

Whatever it is that makes your brand unique, your followers likely share an interest in that. Let them be a part of the identity by involving them. Ask questions, repost customer photos, and engage with them in the comments. Building loyalty with customers is a great way to increase brand awareness as well.

Let your customers in on how these products came to be. Creating posts that tell stories and give meaning to the little details is inviting to customers and helps them to further understand what your brand is all about. Sharing different personas is another option. Show viewers who the products are for or what scenarios they can be used for.

As I continue learning and growing in marketing, I’m realizing that strong content isn’t about doing everything perfectly—it’s about creating something that consistently reflects your brand. The more you practice, the more natural it becomes.
